Taliban Defense Minister Mullah Yaqoob Signs Air Defence Deal with Russia in Moscow
Moscow – 30 May 2026 (MT Team) : Afghan Taliban Defence Minister Mullah Muhammad Yaqoob Mujahid visited Russia and signed an agreement in Moscow for the supply of modern air defence systems, ground military equipment and training for Taliban forces (possibly including drones).
The deal was finalised in the presence of Russian National Security Advisor Sergei Shoigu. Mullah Yaqoob described Russia as an important regional power and expressed desire to further strengthen bilateral ties. This forms part of growing Russia-Taliban cooperation since the group took power in Afghanistan.
