Rwanda High Commission to Observe Kwibuka 32 on April 7 in Memory of 1994 Genocide Victims

Kwibuka 32 to Be Observed Worldwide on April 7 with Message of Peace and Renewal

Islamabad – 6 April 2026 (Adnan Hameed): The High Commission of Rwanda in Pakistan has announced the observance of Kwibuka 32, marking the 32nd anniversary of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi, one of the most tragic events in modern history that resulted in the loss of over one million lives.

Observed every year on April 7, Kwibuka signifies a national period of mourning in Rwanda. It is a time for remembrance, reflection, and solidarity, bringing together citizens and the international community to honour the victims and stand with survivors.
The theme for this year, “Remember – Unite – Renew,” highlights the importance of collective memory, national unity, and a renewed global commitment to preventing genocide and mass atrocities.

According to an official statement issued by the High Commission, the commemoration not only pays tribute to the victims but also acknowledges the decisive role played by the Rwanda Patriotic Army in bringing an end to the genocide and restoring stability in the country.

The statement further reflects Rwanda’s continued journey toward reconciliation, unity, and sustainable development, guided by a forward-looking vision often described as “The Rwanda We Want.”

Emphasizing the global relevance of the occasion, the High Commission urged media organizations and the international community to observe Kwibuka with respect and responsibility. It also stressed the need to counter genocide denial and resist extremist narratives that threaten peace and stability worldwide.

Kwibuka stands as a solemn reminder of humanity’s darkest moments, while also symbolizing resilience, hope, and the enduring pursuit of peace and reconciliation.
