A Strategic Collaboration to Fight a Silent Epidemic
Hepatitis C remains one of Pakistan’s most prevalent and underdiagnosed diseases. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), millions of Pakistanis are chronically infected, with many unaware of their condition until it’s too late. Recognizing this urgent need, OGDCL and AKU OHN have joined forces for a one-year campaign that will bring medical aid directly to those most at risk and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to provide free Hepatitis C screening, diagnosis, and treatment.
What the MoU Covers
Under this partnership:
-
24 initial Hepatitis C screening camps launched in high-prevalence regions.
-
Each site hosts 3 follow-up visits, totaling 72 follow-up camps nationwide.
-
These camps offer comprehensive services, including:
-
Free Hepatitis C testing
-
Diagnosis and access to antiviral treatments
-
Community education on prevention, symptoms, and treatment
-
-
All services offered are free of cost to the community.
Why This Matters
This collaboration is not just about medical treatment, it’s about giving people a second chance at life. By bringing healthcare to the doorstep of vulnerable populations, the initiative:
-
Aims to reduce the national burden of Hepatitis C
-
Supports Pakistan’s public health goals under WHO’s 2030 Hepatitis Elimination Target
-
Provides early detection and timely care, preventing liver failure, cancer, and premature death
Where and When Will the Camps Happen?
The camps are organized across various locations where OGDCL is operational. Dates and venues are announced through Local media, Community engagement campaigns and OGDCL and AKU’s official platforms
This partnership between OGDCL and The Aga Khan University is a powerful example of how the private sector and healthcare institutions can come together to create real, measurable impact. By targeting the root of one of Pakistan’s biggest silent killers, they are bringing hope, healing, and health to thousands.
