PTI Criticizes ECP for Delay in Reserved Seats Order

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar has raised concerns over the delay in issuing an order regarding reserved seats, accusing the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of failing to meet its constitutional obligations. Speaking to the media outside the ECP office, he criticized the election body for withholding the decision on reserved seats, despite a Supreme Court ruling in PTI’s favor.

Barrister Gohar urged the commission to issue the notification, emphasizing that reserved seats are PTI’s right and must be allocated accordingly. He also highlighted that the Senate elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain incomplete and must proceed as required.

Further, he pointed out the disparity in the issuance of intra-party election certificates, noting that while other political parties have received theirs, PTI is still awaiting its certification. This delay, he argued, raises questions about fairness and transparency in the electoral process.

The PTI chairman also addressed the vacancies in the Election Commission, stating that the chief election commissioner, member Punjab, and member Balochistan had retired on January 25. According to the Constitution, their replacements must be appointed within 45 days. He called for the immediate formation of a parliamentary committee to oversee these appointments and revealed that PTI has contacted the National Assembly Speaker to push for action.

Gohar emphasized that the government must adhere to constitutional deadlines and initiate the process without further delay. He criticized the lack of progress in forming the committee, warning that such delays could undermine the credibility of Pakistan’s electoral system.
