Petrol and diesel prices have risen by Rs3.47 and Rs2.61, respectively, from January 16, 2025. How will this affect Pakistan's economy?

The federal government has raised the price of petrol by Rs3.47, bringing it to Rs256.13 per litre, and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs2.61, setting it at Rs260.95 per litre, effective from January 16, 2025. This increase reflects global oil price fluctuations, as part of Pakistan’s regular fuel price reviews. The price hike follows a previous adjustment, where petrol and HSD rates were also increased. The change is expected to affect transport costs and the cost of living in Pakistan, impacting both consumers and businesses alike.
